PCCE : The Director

The year 2008 witnessed the change in leadership at the Agnel Technical Education Complex as Rev. Fr. Orlando Rodrigues took over as Director from Rev. Fr. Peter Rodrigues, the founding Director who pioneered the establishment of Padre Conceicao College of Engineering (PCCE) and has made a significant contribution to the development and growth of Agnel Technical Education Complex in general and PCCE in particular. Rev. Fr. Orlando Rodrigues is noted for thinking ahead of times and for his progressive plans that are a unique combination of vision, effective management and the spirit of promoting technical education.

Rev. Fr. Orlando was born in Betalbatim, Salcete on 17^th August, 1937. After his initial education, he completed the entire Course of Minor Seminary, Pilar, Goa with Distinction in the year 1952. Later eight long years of training and formation of the graduation Course of Philosophy and Theology in the Theological and Philosophical College, Pilar, Goa moulded him to be an efficient, effective & a fruitful minister in the vineyard of the lord. Thereafter he was sent to Rome for further studies. He completed Licentiate in Canon Law (I.C.L.) through the Pontifical University (Gregorian) at Rome, Italy with Distinction in the year 1971.

During the same time (1965 to 1973), he was appointed as Lecturer of Sociology, Philosophy and Theology at the Philosophical and Theological College, Pilar, Goa. He was later appointed the Vice Rector of the same. In the year 1978, he was entrusted the responsibility as Officer-in-Charge, Public Relations of the Head Quarters at the Trust at Bandra which involved coordinating operations of various centres. He also was the Member of the Governing Body of Agnel Ashram, Bandra and allied institutions. A multi-faceted personality, Rev. Fr. Orlando is a linguist with a strong command over nine different languages namely Konkani, Marathi, Hindi, English, Latin, Portuguese, Italian, German, French and Spanish. He has been to various countries across the globe viz. Italy, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Luxemburg, Britain, Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain and U.S.A. for the purpose of study or pastoral assignments or Public Relations visits.

It was in the year 1982 that he was appointed Managing Director of the Fr. Agnel Technical Education Complex at Sector 9A and 10A, Vashi, Navi Mumbai. The Vashi campus, with its artistic and magnificent infrastructure has experienced the personal touch of Fr. Orlando as the Founder and Developer. It is an example of his dynamic vision which has crystallized in myriad forms. A vision of developing a multi disciplinary, technological center of Excellence, providing the congenial ambience and environment to foster a spirit of academic fraternity and thereby develop and promote a group of engineers and technologists who with unflinching devotion serve the emerging needs and demands of futuristic societies. The aim is to augment all available avenues to develop students for emerging needs of society. This complex today comprises of institutions catering to the needs of approximately 8500 students, right from the kindergarten to the post-graduation level.

As founder Director, he has evolved a pedagogy that aims to catalyze excellence in technical education and improve the standards of the students on par with well known institutions. It is this academic and administrative experience of decades that he brought along as he took over as Director of Agnel Technical Education Complex. This complex comprises of

· Fr. Agnel Multipurpose Higher Secondary School

· Fr. Agnel Multipurpose High School

· Agnel Industrial Training Institute conducts four programs namely Fitter, Electrician, Mechanic (Diesel) and Carpentry

· Agnel Entrepreneurship Development Institute

· Agnel Vocational Training Institute

· Agnel Trade School

· Konseisanv Balgram

Padre Conçeicão College of Engineering conducts four Bachelors of Engineering programs and a Master of Engineering (Information Technology) with specialization in Internet Technology. It has now emerged as a premier Institution engaged in imparting quality technological education and providing support to research and development activities. It is committed to enhance capabilities and potential of the students with the objective of transforming them into leaders in their chosen areas of interest. The vision is to strive for excellence, be globally competitive in technical education and focus on knowledge assimilation, generation and dissemination. In line with this vision, a new project of setting up a Technical complex at Assagao, Goa has been started.

Rev. Fr. Orlando Rodrigues envisions a model Institution imparting Engineering education integrated with human values and discipline to enable the students to build productive careers and to excel not only in their special Engineering Professions but also to possess a high degree of commitment, integrity, discipline and ethical standards making them good citizens of our country.
